FIBEROPTIC ENDOSCOPIC EVALUATION OF SWALLOWING

We owe it to our patients to provide the most research based, comprehensive, cost effective assessment of swallowing. At Nashville Speech & Swallowing Specialists, PLLC we provide mobile Fiberoptic Endoscopy Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) services for children and adults in TN, KY, and AL. FEES has been found to be a GOLD STANDARD in assessment and management of oropharyngeal dysphagia. Recent research has shown that FEES has a 97-100% inter-rater reliability, but also FEES has been shown to be higher in specificity and severity in identifying penetration, aspiration, residue, and spillage when compared to modified barium swallow studies. PEDIATRIC FEES

Dr. Jamie D. Fisher is one of the only speech-language pathologists in the TN, KY, and AL areas trained and performing FEES with the pediatric population. She has received training in pediatric FEES and works with infants and children up to 17 years of age. Due to her training, background, and experience with children her approach ensures that the FEES is a safe, well-tolerated, and dynamic procedure that will make accurate swallowing diagnoses and assist in making therapeutic decisions for pediatric patients. 

ADULT FEES

Dr. Jamie D. Fisher has extensive training/experience and also performs FEES with the adult and geriatric populations in TN, KY, and AL. She utilizes the FEES assessment tools with adult patients in medical facilities, as it is well-tolerated, evidence-based, and does not require radiation or ingestion of barium. FEES does not require the patient to be transported and can be done at the patient’s bedside. Information from the FEES will make accurate swallowing diagnoses and assist in making therapeutic decisions for adult patients.
